A custom home is the most personal thing most families will ever build. For more than twenty years, Nicholas Modroo Designs has guided clients through that process across the mountain west — designing homes that are shaped by their site, their views, and the lives that will unfold within them.
We work across the full spectrum of mountain living: sculptural mountain modern homes of glass and steel, warmly textured traditional log and timber, and everything between. Whatever the style, the discipline is the same — every massing decision, view corridor, and material is chosen to make the finished home feel inevitable.
Crucially, we don't hand you a set of drawings and walk away. As designer and owner's representative, we stay engaged through documentation, permitting, and construction administration — so the home you imagined is the home that actually gets built.

Costs vary widely with site, size, finish level, and resort requirements. We establish a realistic budget early in the discovery phase and design to it — so the home you fall in love with on paper is the home you can actually build.
Most custom homes run roughly 18 to 36 months from first sketch to move-in, depending on size, site, design-review requirements, and the builder's schedule. We map a realistic timeline up front and manage it throughout.
We're based in Bozeman, MT and work across the mountain west — Big Sky, Yellowstone Club, Moonlight Basin, Teton Valley, and throughout Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado, Utah and Alaska.
